Friction Materials Corporation is a majority Flipino owned company in partnership with Meiji Sangyo Company of Japan, was incorporated on September 30, 1974 the pioneer in manufacture of brake linings for trucks and buses under the local brand "Jupiter" Brake Linings and compete with imported linings that dominated the Philippine market then. Manufacturing technology was secured from Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd. of Japan, the largest and foremost brake lining manufacturer in Japan, with whom it had a License and Technical Assistance Agreement. Under past agreements, local engineers had been trained in the different aspects of brake lining production and equipment maintenance. The original Japanese equipment were subsequently upgraded by the latest, and custom-built machinery from other major supplier overseas.
